HOW SHOULD YOU THINK ABOUT THE PROFESSION OF SALES? WHY DOES THE PROSPECT EITHER BUY OR NOT BUY?  Read More

As a mountaineer and Wall Streeter turned independent leadership consultant and professor, I strive to make a difference in the lives of my students and clients. While there are multiple approaches from teachers, coaches, and guides, my own insights often relate the metaphor of careers to mountain climbing. They have 3 things in common:

Whether frightening or comforting, climbing and careers look alike in their ascent. Neither is a straight line. Some days you’ll soar. Some days you’ll stagger. The only constants are change and unpredictability. Careers, like mountain climbing, develop in small increments. More important, you can’t do it alone. It takes a team to succeed in any endeavor.

While we try to control as much as we can, recognize there are a variety of factors that will slow you down when you least expect it. Maybe that’s what makes careers and climbing so fascinating and fun. Those obstacles inspire me to exceed my own expectations. I hope I can inspire you to exceed yours.

Going forward, I’ll blog about a variety of leadership topics meant to inspire, persuade, and provoke change. If I can help to improve your sales skills, public speaking ability, or you need a coach to help you on your career climb, give me a call.

Thanks for joining me on your way to the top.
